Audi A8 / S8 Advanced Sound System

All of a sudden you’ll love traffic jams

Driving an Audi A8 or S8 is a joyful experience in itself.

Now imagine the consummate thrill of adding what audio reviewers, test panels, conductors, and reporters from all over the world have labeled the best automotive audio system ever – admittedly, some use slightly different notations like revolutionary, sensational, flawless and stunning.

What you get is no less than the quintessential driving and listening experience — combined.

A touch of magic

Turn the ignition key, keep a close eye on the dashboard and watch as two descant tweeters silently emerge from their hidden positions.

Besides adding a visual touch of magic, these two sculptured, zink lenses ensure a wide 180º horizontal dispersion, helping to provide you and your passengers with superior acoustic staging and perspective.

All thanks to the amazing Acoustic Lens Technology that is also a decisive part of the crown jewel in our domestic loudspeaker range – the renowned BeoLab 5.

Surround yourself with sound

The acoustic lenses are just two out of a total of fourteen active loudspeakers that comprise the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System,

including a powerful subwoofer placed in the middle of the rear parcel shelf, with two full-range drivers on each side.

Beyond this, there are two drivers in each of the four doors plus a powerful full-range driver hidden in the centre of the dashboard.

The sound system delivers a total output of more than 1000 watts.

However, because of our proprietary ICEpower amplifier technology you’ll get this lavish power without having to spoil the interior of your Audi with oversized loudspeaker units or – perhaps just as important – enduring the enormous heat emitted from a conventional analogue amplifier with the same output power .

And because all fourteen speakers have their own dedicated amplifier (active loudspeaker technology), you’ll always enjoy the maximum clarity and the best possible control of the overall listening experience.

Beware of hidden microphones

The Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System features a 14-channel Digital Signal Processing platform (DSP).

This ensures a flawless listening experience no matter where you’re seated in the vehicle. Via the Audi interface you can easily choose between four different modes to optimise the acoustic image to the number of people in the car.

The system also has a microphone integrated between the two front seats. It measures changing noise conditions (type of tires fitted, rain on windscreen, etc.) and instantly adjusts the sound to ensure a uniform acoustic experience.

Need we add, the system also automatically adjusts to your speed,

so you won’t have to put your hand on the volume button when you put your foot down.

For your ears only

One of the many secrets behind the audible masterpiece provided by the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System is the fact that each loudspeaker is custom-built for the Audi A8/S8 and mounted in moulded cabinets utilising sealed enclosure technology.

As a result, practically all the sound produced, including your mobile phone conversations, is kept inside the car – even at the very highest volume level.

Please keep eyes open while driving

Even after you have experienced the astonishing crystal clarity of the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, you could still find that finding words to describe it isn’t the easiest thing to do.

Actually, Fifth Gear, a motoring magazine show on British TV-channel Five, may have come closest when they said: “It’s like carrying a pop-up Sydney Opera House in your car.”

So even though it may be tempting to close your eyes and allow yourself to vanish into the music, please don’t.

At least not if you’re in the driver’s seat …
